The Mistake that Exposed Two Thieves Who Looted a Gym in Alicante

A miscalculation has exposed two suspected thieves who looted the gym of a sports center in La Nucía. The suspects were driving a van through Alicante loaded with the stolen sports equipment but failed to notice that the vehicle was sagging due to the excessive weight of the load.

A Local Police patrol intercepted them and observed that inside the van there was a large amount of gym equipment in perfect condition and showing no signs of use. Given the indications of the possible illicit origin of the sports equipment and also observing certain administrative deficiencies presented by the van, the officers intervened and removed the van, along with its contents, from public roads.

The confiscated items included gym equipment consisting of a large number of Olympic plates, kettlebells, various dumbbells, Olympic bars, and stationary bikes.

Once this initial intervention was carried out, the investigation group of the National Police, attached to the Central District Police Station of Alicante, took over and began the necessary checks to locate the origin of the seized items.

The investigations revealed a robbery with force that occurred in La Nucía, where various gym materials had apparently been stolen from a sports center. Finally, the representative of the owning company was located, confirming that it was indeed the same equipment recovered by the Local Police and valued at 6,482 euros.

The National Police returned the stolen equipment to its rightful owner and, after discovering new evidence, investigators determined that both the driver and passenger of the van transporting the weights had committed the robbery.

Subsequently, they developed an operation to locate and arrest those responsible, who are Spanish nationals aged 33 and 43. The proceedings were submitted to the Courts of Instruction in La Vila.
