AC Milan, on the ropes against Feyenoord after the 1-0 defeat in Rotterdam, was compelled to respond at San Siro to meet expectations. They quickly achieved the goal of leveling the tie, with a strike in the first minute by Mexican Santi Giménez, who was signed this winter transfer window from Feyenoord.

The Mexican striker did not celebrate a goal that ultimately proved futile, as Theo Hernández's expulsion for a second yellow card early in the second half turned out to be disastrous for the Italian side's interests, eliminated by Julián Carranza's crucial goal fifteen minutes from the end.
