Marius Borg Høiby, son of Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, has started a detox treatment in London with the firm support of his stepfather, Crown Prince Haakon. Amid a challenging year for the Norwegian royal family, Haakon cleared his schedule of official commitments to accompany his wife's son, who has been struggling with addiction and mental health issues for years, to the British capital where he has been admitted to a detox clinic.
The 27-year-old has been in the media spotlight since last summer when he was arrested in Oslo following an assault complaint under the influence of alcohol and other substances. At the time, he publicly acknowledged his addiction problems and expressed his desire to tackle his illness at its root. However, new assault allegations and public criticism further complicated his situation.

Haakon's decision to accompany him to London underscores his commitment to Marius's well-being, despite the discretion he has maintained from the start. According to the Norwegian media 'Se og Hør', Haakon and Marius took a commercial flight on November 7, showing the support the Crown Prince provides to his stepson during this difficult time. A few days ago, in his first public statements, Haakon paraphrased King Harald when sharing how they are experiencing this moment: "We, as a family, try to take care of each other." And he has demonstrated this by staying by Marius's side while Mette-Marit remains on leave due to the effects of medical treatment for her chronic pulmonary fibrosis.
