Mercalicante is progressing with its future expansion. The Local Government Board approved on Wednesday the expropriation project of nearly 19,500 square meters of land adjacent to the food cluster. A project for which 3.2 million euros will be allocated for the acquisition of the land.
It was on Tuesday when the board decided to reject the objections presented regarding the expropriation of the lands and thus approve the project for acquiring the land valued at 3,209,003 euros. An expansion aimed at strengthening "the strategic position of Mercalicante, responding to the current high occupancy of the site, and attracting new companies to boost economic growth and sustainability in the agri-food sector in the province," as detailed by the council.
It was in June 2024 when the City Council and Mercasa, partners of Mercalicante, informed the Board of Directors about the study on the opportunity for Mercalicante's expansion, agreeing to approve the opening of the corresponding administrative files for this future expansion.
Thus, the Urban Planning Department requested in November the drafting of a project to expropriate the adjacent lands for the future expansion of the cluster. A month later, in December, the Board of Directors approved a capital increase aimed at acquiring these adjacent plots, totaling 19,500 m2.
