Mercadona surprises its customers once again by improving the quality of all its 'Roscón de Reyes', making them even fluffier and with a softer texture. As every year, it offers five different varieties, perfect for enjoying during the Epiphany feast or any festive occasion: three filled 'roscones' and two without filling, one of which is gluten and lactose-free, now adorned with traditional candied fruit following feedback from their 'bosses' (as they internally refer to consumers).

This enhancement in texture and fluffiness has been developed alongside their specialist suppliers, La Tahona de Utiel and Airos Delicatessen, located in Utiel (Valencia) and Martorell (Barcelona), respectively. Through their fermentation process, the brioche dough of the roscón becomes fluffier and softer. Once purchased in-store, customers can defrost it in the fridge within its packaging and keep it for up to three days, ensuring it retains the same quality and fluffiness.

"The key lies in following the same preparation process as in a traditional bakery: the dough is prepared and created, left to rest, manually shaped, and decorated with candied fruit, sliced almonds, and sugar," explains Rocío Castro, a 'roscón' specialist at Mercadona. After a fermentation process, during which the 'roscón' dough gains the appropriate volume for its fluffy and soft texture, they are baked and individually checked to ensure their quality is up to standard.

Regarding the filled 'roscones', available in three different flavours, they feature a filling evenly distributed to ensure that each bite reveals the contrast between the brioche and the chosen filling: cream, cream-based, and cream and cocoa-based.

Additionally, for those who prefer the classic 'roscón', the company offers two options without any filling: the traditional and its gluten and lactose-free version, now also decorated with candied fruit. This allows customers the option to enjoy it plain or fill it to their liking.

All Mercadona's 'Roscón de Reyes' come with the figurine, the bean, and the crown, a tradition that concludes the festive season and brings families together around the table. The 'roscones' are now available in all the company's supermarkets and can be purchased until Saturday, January 4th, to enjoy on the night or day of Epiphany.
