The Mediterranean Foundation presents the eighth edition of the Mediterranean Flamenco Festival, established as one of the benchmarks of flamenco art in the city of Alicante. The festival will take place from October 24 to December 1, 2024, offering a varied program with internationally renowned artists, conferences, and training activities that will delight flamenco lovers.
The president of the Mediterranean Foundation, Luis Boyer, stated that "this festival is an opportunity to showcase the talent of great flamenco figures and offer the public the chance to enjoy top-level shows at our venues in Alicante and Murcia."
The festival will kick off on October 24 with an opening ceremony at 8 p.m., where the winning images of the Festival's photography contest will be displayed, and there will be a brief recital of Miguel Hernández and Federico García Lorca on flamenco art. Following this, the inaugural singing and guitar show will begin, featuring Ismael De La Rosa 'El Bola' and 'El Peli'.
'El Peli', guitarist, producer, and composer, was born in 1998 in Alicante, into a family with a flamenco tradition. He began his artistic career in Spain's most important flamenco tablaos, such as Villarosa or Las Carboneras, among others, where he accompanied dance figures like Marco Flores, Alfonso Losa, or Patricia Guerrero.
For his part, the singer 'El Bola' was born into a Triana family, La Familia Fernandez. At a young age, he has had the privilege of working with artists such as: La Chana, Güito, Farruquito, Antonio Canales, Esperanza Fernández, José Maya, Alfonso Losa, etc.
The next event of the festival will be the conference scheduled for November 7, where dancer and teacher Fefa Gómez will give a talk titled 'The Professionalization of Flamenco in Alicante'. In this talk, Fefa Gómez, who has dedicated her life to dance since the age of 4, will share her experience and career, offering an intimate view of the professionalization process in flamenco and its impact on Alicante's cultural scene.
On November 9, the renowned Granada singer Marina Heredia will present her show 'A Journey Through Flamenco Styles', where she will offer a masterful interpretation of styles such as soleá, alegrías, siguiriyas, bulerías, and many more. Daughter of the singer Jaime 'El Parrón', Heredia has established an international career that has led her to perform on prestigious stages such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Flamenco Biennial in Seville. The ticket price for this show is 40 euros.
On November 16, it will be the turn of the dancer Lucía La Piñona with her show 'Insatiable'. The artist, who began dancing at a very young age in her native Cádiz, will present a deeply emotional and visceral work, where the body and vulnerability merge into a powerful narrative. 'Insatiable' is a statement of principles by La Piñona, a dancer who dares to explore and share her deepest emotions through every movement. Tickets will be available for 35 euros.
On November 23, the VIII Mediterranean Flamenco Festival will host the Winners' Gala of the prestigious International Festival of Cante de las Minas, one of the most important flamenco competitions in the world. The 2024 La Unión edition awardees will showcase their talent in the categories of singing, guitar, dance, and percussion.
Finally, on November 30, dancers Miguel Ángel Heredia and Alberto Sellés will present 'Trémula', an intimate and passionate show that explores the paths of emotion through flamenco dance.
Over the years, the Mediterranean Flamenco Festival has established itself as one of the most important cultural proposals of the Mediterranean Foundation, attracting a diverse audience and offering a privileged space to enjoy flamenco in its various forms. The commitment to artistic diversity, the combination of great figures with young promises, and the inclusion of training activities make this festival a unique event in Alicante's cultural agenda.
