Medical Devicine, a company from the Scientific Park of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (PCUMH), has initiated a capital expansion round to facilitate the market entry of its trauma and cardiac arrest care products. To date, the firm has attracted capital worth 250,000 euros, bringing in partners such as Bonastre Biomed, a company specializing in the design, development, and manufacture of medical products; Clínicum Seguros, a medical insurance company; and Tarves Consultores, according to PCUMH sources.
The PCUMH company, with over seven years of experience, currently holds patents in the United States, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain. It is also in the process of obtaining patents in Canada and South Korea. Furthermore, it has begun applying for a second family of patents focused on the trauma aspect of the device. In this regard, the firm expects to reach the market, with global scalability, within approximately 18 months, according to the same sources.
The technology developed by the PCUMH company boasts over six years of development, functional prototypes, testing, usability studies, and engineering processes for industrialization. Its added value lies in enabling a single first responder to perform Basic Life Support (BLS) maneuvers equivalent to those of an ambulance.
This is possible because it combines ventilation, trauma assistance, and intubation support capabilities into a single kit the size of a backpack. Thanks to this, the company's CEO assures that vehicles such as Non-Assisted Transport (TNA) or police cars can be converted into equivalents to BLS ambulances.
According to the CEO of the PCUMH company, Adolfo Ferrero, "the value proposition of Medical Devicine lies in amplifying the operational capacity of current healthcare resources. With the equivalent of the annual cost of a Basic Life Support ambulance, we can incorporate 300 units into the emergency system capable of attending to cardiac arrest, initial trauma care, and intubation support."
In this regard, Ferrero explains that, in the United States and Europe alone, these capabilities can cover around five million interventions per year. "Its versatility is unprecedented in the field of medical devices and represents an unprecedented innovation in the area of emergency healthcare. It also enables first responders on their own, such as lifeguards, security forces, volunteers, etc., to provide complete basic life support with a lightweight and versatile kit, integrated into an intervention backpack," says the director.
Medical Devicine has an office in the UMH Scientific Park and a professional team specializing in quality engineering, regulatory, financial, industrialization, and administration. Additionally, it includes professionals such as cardiologist Josep Brugada; ISGLOBAL's Director of Innovation, Dr. Joan Bigorra; the Director of the ITEMAS-ISCIII platform, Lluís Blanch; and the Director of Simulation at CISARC in Manresa, Carmen Gomar.
Furthermore, the company has appointed Dr. José Ignacio Garrote as the Medical Director of the Out-of-Hospital Area.
