Kylian Mbappé has been hospitalised in Miami due to an acute case of gastroenteritis, which prevented him from participating in Xabi Alonso's team's debut in the Club World Cup, the Real Madrid announced on Thursday.

The French forward was absent from the match against Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal as he was experiencing a feverish condition caused by this ailment. In recent hours, Mbappé's condition worsened, and the club announced that he would undergo medical tests to find a treatment.

Mbappé was expected to be a key starter in Xabi Alonso's first match as Real Madrid's manager, but this setback altered the plans of the Basque coach, who opted for academy player Gonzalo García in the attack, with Rodrygo and Vinicius completing the 4-3-3 formation.

Following his admission to an unspecified medical centre, Mbappé is practically ruled out for the second group stage match, which the Whites will play this Sunday against Mexico's Pachuca at the Bank Of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Xabi Alonso hopes to have him available for the clash against Salzburg, scheduled for the early hours of Thursday to Friday, which will conclude this first phase of the World Cup, prior to the knockout rounds.
