The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has stated that he sees "favorably" the bill (PNL) registered in Les Corts by Vox, his former government partner in the Consell, to conduct tests on all migrant minors in the Valencian Community to determine their age. "I extend my hand so that we can continue working. This proposal can be a meeting point in the name of the legality of international agreements," he conveyed to Vox's spokesperson, José Mª Llanos, during the control session in Les Corts. He also stated that he is "pleased" to share with Vox the goal of "pursuing mafias."

Immigration has once again been the focus of Vox's intervention in the Les Corts plenary session, following their departure from regional governments shared with the PP due to the decision to accept unaccompanied migrant minors. Specifically, Vox's PNL calls for a general protocol that includes "partial and thorough medical tests" for "all unaccompanied illegal immigrants" under the Generalitat's guardianship.

During his intervention, Mazón reminded Vox that the fight against "illegal immigration" is a government responsibility, while the Generalitat must fulfill its assistance role as established by law. "We will continue to fulfill it, as we cannot do otherwise (...) We cannot break the law. I certainly will not," he emphasized.

However, he again accused the government of shifting "all the pressure" onto regional communities regarding "illegal immigration," a "concern" he claimed to share "with most European citizens."

"When boats come to us, it's because the government is irresponsible and doesn't work at the source," he argued and demanded a new national law on the matter.

Immigration conditioned on work

In this regard, Mazón argued that "immigration should be conditioned on available work, on the demand for labor in our productive fabric, especially in the agricultural sector."

He also expressed his willingness "to demand that the government execute agreements with Morocco because it is too accustomed not to execute them and let (this country) do as it pleases."

And he stated: "No one emigrates for pleasure or risks their life on a boat out of whim. That's why we must stop talking about the right to emigrate and start talking about the right not to be forced to emigrate due to misery, tyranny, intolerance, war, or mafia business." "On this path, I am sure we will find common ground," he told Vox.

For his part, this group's spokesperson thanked Mazón for his "willingness" and urged him to be "brave" regarding the situation of minor reception centers, as he believes that "the PP may not be doing enough" and "within its competence can do much by demanding Pedro Sánchez -the president of the government- instead of whitewashing him or playing along with him in Congress."
