On Tuesday evening, it was announced that Banco Sabadell would be leaving Alicante to restore its headquarters in Catalonia. This decision has not been well received and has taken the business sector and authorities in Alicante and the rest of the Comunitat by surprise.

From the Alicante City Council to the Generalitat, the decision has been lamented. The president of the Comunitat, Carlos Mazón, stated on Wednesday at Fitur that the departure of Banco Sabadell from Alicante is "bad news" and emphasized that the Consell's priority "has been and will be the jobs and offices."

In this regard, the head of the Consell acknowledges that "assurances have been conveyed to me from Sabadell" on this matter. The president was able to speak with Josep Oliu, head of the financial entity, who assured him that despite the departure, the jobs and offices of Sabadell's network in the city of Alicante and its province will be maintained.

"I am also concerned about consumer rights or credit to our self-employed," Mazón admitted, who regretted this decision but "understands" that it was made within a context "of weakness and hostile takeover."

During his statements to the media, Carlos Mazón revealed that he has already spoken with the president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, and will meet with him again next Monday. He assured this after hinting that Sabadell "has decided to make some gesture to whom it may concern," without providing further details about these statements.

Mazón has expressed opposition to Sabadell's decision to leave Alicante, which throughout the takeover had maintained its decision to remain in the city, where its social headquarters have been located since the 'Procés'. However, the president made it clear that if he had to choose between "Alicante or Sabadell, he would choose Alicante without hesitation."
