El 'president' of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has expressed 'total respect' for the decision of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) to dismiss the three lawsuits and four complaints filed against him for the management of the DANA, which on October 29 caused 223 deaths and three disappearances in the province of Valencia.
'Total respect, as I always have with all judicial resolutions. I hope everyone also respects it,' he stated briefly in response to journalists' questions during a visit to Elche (Alicante) on Tuesday.
This is how he assessed the ruling issued by the Plenary of the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the TSJCV in which it dismisses the lawsuits and complaint. The decision came days after the Prosecutor's Office reported in favor of opening an investigation into the management of the DANA, but understanding that the case should continue in an ordinary court to see if there are 'founded' indications.
The lawsuits and/or complaints filed by Iustitia Europa, four individuals, one from CGT PV, and another from FETAP-CGT are directed against Mazón, four of them exclusively against the 'president' (Iustitia Europa, CGT, and two individuals). Two others also point to the former councillor responsible for Emergencies, Salomé Pradas, dismissed after the DANA, while the one from FETAP-CGT is also directed against the Director General of Emergencies, Alberto Javier Martín, and the former regional secretary Emilio Argüeso.
In the ruling dated this Monday, the Chamber—which had already accumulated these complaints and lawsuits into a single case through a provision—applies in its resolution the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court, which requires the presence of 'qualified indications against privileged persons to not remove investigations from their primary natural scope.'
On the other hand, when asked if he plans to visit the municipalities affected by the DANA during this Christmas, Mazón highlighted that 'the entire Generalitat is visiting every day' and cited as an example that this past Monday he was in Torrent visiting children under the care of the regional administration.
'These days I am conducting all kinds of visits (...) Yes, we are visiting personally, sometimes with media and sometimes without them, to speak directly with the people,' he explained.
Additionally, he reiterated that 'the most important thing' is to be effective with the delivery of aid to those affected, of which more than '1.3 billion euros' have already been mobilized. Among these benefits, 'in record time, in just seven days, more than 13,000 self-employed people have received the aid,' he emphasized. 'That is the best effort we can make.'
