Seven months have passed since the tragic DANA event that devastated parts of southern Valencia province, resulting in over 200 deaths. The floods' impact extended further, destroying homes, vehicles, and causing millions in losses. The Generalitat is finalizing the reconstruction plan, which Vice President Gan Pampols will present at the end of June.
However, the tragic event also highlighted several politicians from the Consell, who undertook a reshuffle after the DANA, deemed insufficient by many. Especially the opposition, which demands Mazón's resignation, blaming him directly for his management on the day of the DANA and for not arriving at the Cecopi until after 7 PM.
The president has faced criticism and boos during various institutional visits in Alicante. Even in Santa Faz, which he missed due to an official trip to the United States, a giant banner demanding his resignation was displayed, displeasing the PP and the local government.
It was this Wednesday that Mazón dispelled doubts about his continuity, reaffirming that he does not intend to resign. He stated this during media declarations following the opening of Opendir, the open forum for executives organized by El Círculo. Mazón reiterated, "I will fulfill my commitment, which is none other than being available 24 hours a day for the reconstruction."
The president responded to media questions about his continuity at the helm of the Consell. Mazón detailed that it is "a time for more commitment, more work, and reaching everyone," defending that "in any case, the priorities are not about me."
In this regard, he argues that "this is not about Carlos Mazón or political calculations; it is about commitment, and my personal figure is of no importance." Furthermore, the president states that the approval of these budgets "marks the beginning of a new phase, a path we have already set in motion with aid," and he is confident in leading the reconstruction of Valencia and the Community.
Mazón outlines some of these aids, such as the travel voucher, "which has been extraordinarily well-received," and announces that soon "we will introduce a hospitality voucher and a commerce voucher," criticizing the "zero aid launched by the Government compared to the 80,000 we have implemented in the Generalitat." The head of the Consell details that "we are alone, we do not even have a joint commission with the Government," while defending that "never have more resources been mobilized in such a short time as we have done."
