President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has stated that the meal he had with a journalist on the day of the storm was in his capacity as president of the PP of the Valencian Community and that "it was never said otherwise." "There is no change of version," asserted the 'popular' leader, who assured that the invoice will be presented "with absolute transparency" to the Court of Auditors, "like all the party's accounting." "I think it is reasonable to do so," he added.
Mazón made these remarks in Castelló de la Plana in response to media questions about the parliamentary response from the Presidency, which assures that the meal with journalist Maribel Vilaplana on October 29 was not paid with Generalitat funds, as the head of the Consell attended "in his capacity as president of the PPCV," and these are "entirely funded by his political formation."
"It was simply a Popular Party meal and it was never said otherwise. I remain the president of the Generalitat and the president of the PP, and therefore there is no change of version, quite the opposite," he maintained.
He framed the meeting with Vilaplana as part of the round of talks prior to the appointment of new management bodies of À Punt, "which are bodies and advisors proposed by different political parties." "I held a series of conversations with media professionals, and this was one of them," he explained.
Asked if this means that the offer of the direction of the Valencian public broadcaster was made as PP president, Mazón replied that "the proposals made for the administrative bodies, the management bodies of À Punt, are proposals that, as everyone knows, are made by political groups and political parties." "Therefore, the entire conversation around the direction of À Punt or the Board of Directors is conducted as party president," he confirmed.
When questioned about why this fact was not reported earlier, the head of the Consell insisted that "the meal was never denied, under any circumstances, and when the time came for a parliamentary question, it was answered following the normal channels and transparency of that parliamentary appearance." He emphasized: "It was always a meal in the capacity of president of the Popular Party, which I also am, in addition to being president of the Generalitat. There is nothing new, I don't see the news anywhere."

He said he hopes that "other political leaders around the storm will also have the peace of mind and transparency to bring us their tickets, both those who were part of the Cecopi and those who were not."
"I don't know if Minister Ribera will be able to provide the meal ticket from Brussels, or if the Prime Minister, the one from India. I don't know if those who are indeed members of the Cecopi, like the president of the Hydrographic Confederation, will also show us their ticket or talk about their meal. Or the government's delegate herself, who did not appear at the Cecopi until 11 hours after I did, will also make that transparency exercise..." he enumerated.

Mazón was also asked about what was discussed at the lunch and who he spoke to on the phone afterwards, before arriving at the Cecopi meeting. In this regard, the regional leader emphasized that "at no time" was he out of communication and noted that he had "successive calls" with "many" people, such as the president of the Valencia Provincial Council, the then Emergency Minister, "with some mayors, with colleagues from the Presidency of the Generalitat, with infrastructure officials..."
"I was attentive and in communication all the time until I went directly and personally, without being a member of the Cecopi, but even so, I approached when I considered that things were already changing and when we saw that finally the Hydrographic Confederation was alerting us to the great danger, which was the Forata dam," he remarked.
Regarding why he does not voluntarily present the invoice for the meal at the El Ventorro restaurant, he replied that "there is nothing to hide, it has already been confirmed, everything is already there and everything follows its course and transparency is marked in the regulations and there is absolutely no problem with that." "With total normality, that working lunch took place and with total normality, parliamentary questions are answered and with total transparency, they will be provided to the Court of Auditors, if it is also considered to the Investigation Commission, there is no problem, I insist, I hope others are also able to convey this same transparency," he said.
And, regarding the invoice, he repeated when asked about deadlines, that it will be provided "when appropriate according to current regulations." "There is a regulation for transparency and there will be no problem, I insist. First, because it is an obligation and second, because there is no problem with complying with transparency, as it cannot be otherwise," he stressed.
Finally, Mazón was asked if he thinks it was "appropriate" to have held that meeting as PPCV president in a red alert situation: "I never cease to be president of the Generalitat, it is a condition that accompanies me 24 hours a day, but I am also the president of the Popular Party, in fact, it is the government of the Generalitat of the Popular Party and that day the Cecopi was practically constituted, the technical leaders, the political leaders, everyone who had to be there was there and it was not until after seven in the evening when the CHJ began to report again on other issues that had not been reported on all day."
"Everyone was where they had to be, fulfilling their duty and I was informed like any other regional president, other regional presidents also did not go to the Cecopi and were informed through their various delegates in that body to which I insist, to which I do not belong, but which was validly constituted, validly reinforced and validly attentive to everything," he concluded.
