The University of Alicante and Miguel Hernández University of Elche will share hospital practices. This significant agreement with the Generalitat aims to 'turn the page' on the Medicine conflict and adapt to current times.
The TSJ ruling supporting the establishment of these studies at the San Vicente campus has led the Consell's plans for a new interuniversity campus to be shelved.
With the law on their side, the Medicine degree remains at UA, and to avoid further conflicts, both universities will have equal resources, especially when reconstruction is crucial.
These resources will be shared not only in the Medicine degree offered by both universities but also in other disciplines, such as Nursing, whose implementation is also planned at UMH to mitigate tensions.
Additionally, the introduction of the first interuniversity and interdisciplinary degree between both universities, such as Neurosciences and Artificial Intelligence, marks a 'significant advance' towards a 'common healthcare space'.
President Carlos Mazón described it as such on Monday during the presentation of agreements reached in the three-way meeting between the Generalitat, UA, and UMH, emphasizing that 'public healthcare and education are priorities'.
Throughout his speech, he did not mention the interuniversity campus announced after the Consell's settlement in the appeal filed by UMH against UA and the Generalitat. It was only when questioned by TodoAlicante that he addressed the issue.
'Discussing the first joint degree begins to hint at a provincial campus,' he remarked before shifting the terminology and concept towards a 'provincial space' or 'shared provincial area'.
In this new reality, marked by the TSJ ruling in favor of UA's Medicine degree, the initial idea fades, focusing instead on sharing and collaboration.

In this regard, Mazón emphasized that this agreement to share practices and offer a first interuniversity and interdisciplinary degree will serve as a foundation to 'combine efforts and structures' for 'the best education' in the province, as the ultimate beneficiary is the patient.
In fact, a few weeks ago, the rector of UMH also recalled that his condition for sharing practices with UA in already contracted hospitals was that the Alicante institution integrate through Medicine into the interuniversity Health Sciences campus.
The rector of UA, also consulted by this newspaper, rejected this option again after learning of the ruling. 'I suppose we will talk about things we can share, including practices,' she stated about the meeting, where her predictions proved correct on Monday.
Thus, Mazón's idea of an interuniversity campus has lost momentum following the judicial resolution and negotiations with UA. The president emphasized, even before the meeting, that his hopes for the encounter were to at least discuss 'a great capacity for collaboration', something evident on Monday, distancing the initial idea.
