Mazón Calls for the Valencian Community to Be a 'Protagonist' in the EU

President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, stated that "it is time for Spain and the Valencian Community to stop being spectators and become protagonists in the drafting of European policies."

The head of the Consell emphasized the need to "be main actors in community policies for our agriculture, our tourism, our infrastructures, and for the reconstruction process of our land in which we are immersed."

He thus called for unity among the Generalitat, provincial councils, and municipalities to say that "we not only form part of Europe, but we want to lead," and requested the Consular Corps to intercede in conveying to Brussels that "the European sentiment has led us, but now we want it to guide us to be active protagonists."

Carlos Mazón highlighted that it is "the moment to Valencianize the European Union because if we do well, it will benefit all member countries, as there is no better set of values than those of the Mediterranean."

In this regard, he appealed to "understand that this goes far beyond a mere piece of land, it is about having a broad perspective, with freedom and democracy at the forefront, because the European spirit is much more than feeling part of the same flag."

The president stressed that "thanks to being assertive, we have been able to announce a new line of support from European funds amounting to 33 million euros for the SMEs of the Valencian Community," noting that "this is the path we must follow: to exert the influence we need for the development of our land."

Carlos Mazón praised the exhibition organized at the Castle of Santa Bárbara in Alicante on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the signing of Spain's Accession Treaty to the EEC, highlighting its "inspiring character and reminding us of all that unites us and the democratic values that emerged from Western culture."

"It is not simply a cultural activity around an anniversary, but an exercise in memory to recall the foundations on which a united Europe was built, which remain as valid as when they were first formulated," concluded the president.
