On Wednesday, May 28, a "very significant event" will be recorded in history books for President Carlos Mazón. It is on this day that the 2025 regional budgets will be approved, featuring a new allocation specifically for the reconstruction of the DANA, which devastated parts of southern Valencia province in late October 2024.
"If nothing goes wrong, the budgets will be approved today," Mazón assured during statements to the media in Alicante, at the fourth edition of the Opendir forum. This development has led the head of the Consell to boast of being "the first minority government in Spain with approved budgets," while highlighting the Central Government's lack of general accounts.
In this regard, Mazón claims that this "very special" day opens the door to progress in reconstruction and "boosts" the Community. The President announced a series of aids to be implemented in the coming weeks, while it is expected that by the end of June, Vice President Gan Pampols will present the reconstruction plan with "hundreds of budgeted initiatives," Mazón detailed, lamenting that the Generalitat "is too alone."
"It is an important day that makes us feel determined to stay focused, to continue," the President remarked. Mazón hopes that the increased dynamism provided by the regional accounts will help "recover what we deserve" and assures that the "change we started two years ago with the support of the citizens" continues. A support that, according to Mazón, aims to "end the fiscal hell, promote employment, improve public healthcare, ensure fiscal freedom, and attract investment, which must be consolidated and is being consolidated."
The President of the Generalitat went further, describing them as "the most social budgets in history," for the second consecutive year, and detailed that this year's accounts will bring "the largest healthcare budget in Spain, with almost a billion euros more than the previous year."
With the approval of these budgets, the head of the Consell explains that "we are advancing in tax reform, with significant deductions, and support for our farmers and access to housing." Mazón insists on the "excessive fiscal pressure from the Government" and states that "we have demonstrated that by lowering taxes, more can be collected, as from the first quarter of last year to this, we have collected 17% more."
