Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat and leader of the PPCV, managed to arrive in time to greet PP President Alberto Núñez Feijóo with a hug at the closing of the European People's Party (PPE) Congress held this Tuesday and Wednesday in Valencia. He then caught a flight to New York for a commercial mission in the United States, which will prevent him from attending the Santa Faz pilgrimage in Alicante this Thursday.

The head of the Consell's presence at Feria Valencia, amidst significant media attention, occurred after he missed the first day due to the level 3 emergency in the Valencian Community following Monday's power outage. It was essentially a courtesy visit, as the head of the Consell could not stay for the congress's closing ceremony.

At the venue, he was awaited by the President of the Valencia Provincial Council and leader of the PP in this province, Vicent Mompó, and the PPCV's Secretary General, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, along with other popular officials.

In fact, it was not Mazón's first contact with his European colleagues, whom he was able to "welcome" on Tuesday at a meeting in the Palacio de la Exposición. This reception took place before the PPE leaders' dinner and was not included in Mazón's agenda.

Upon leaving the congress, which he departed shortly before 11 a.m., Mazón told journalists that thanks to the PPE, the "European reaction" for the Valencian Community is "closer," in the context of the storm on October 29 that devastated much of the province of Valencia. He lamented that, meanwhile, "others are not providing the response they should."

Thus, Mazón ultimately did not stay for the closing ceremony, in which former Prime Minister José María Aznar participated alongside PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo. Nor, as planned, did he address the plenary session on Wednesday.

In a hurry, Mazón stated that he hopes to "bring very good news for Valencia from New York." When asked about his thoughts on European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen meeting with storm victims' associations on May 13 in Brussels, he simply said, "I think I have to go on a trip."
