The 'president' of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, stated this Thursday in Alicante that the Valencian Government "constantly self-criticises," while encouraging "to keep moving forward" after the storm on October 29. The head of the Consell also affirmed that the responsibility for removing the cars destroyed by the storm lies, "by government decision, with the municipalities," which he considers an "excessive" burden.

When asked by journalists during the visit to the new provisional parking of what will be the Central TRAM Station in Alicante about whether he believes the Generalitat made "mistakes" that day, Mazón stated that "we all have to always improve." The president pointed out that "it is always about improving in the best possible way."

For the Valencian leader, "it is time to keep moving forward and continue recovering." In this regard, he emphasized that he "does" belong to a government "that constantly self-criticises and is trying to advance in recovery."

Cars piled up

Regarding the cars piled up on some roads and municipalities - another effect of the storm - the president stressed that the decision for this task to depend on the municipalities was made by the central government. Something for which he believes the Generalitat is helping the municipalities "in every way."

"This came late and surprised us. But, in any case, I must acknowledge the work that the councillor and the Conselleria are doing to help the municipalities in every possible way because I believe it was an excessive burden of responsibility transferred to the municipalities and it was done late, as that government decree took time," Mazón insisted.

And he added: "We have not stopped helping, increasing the pace of work in the face of a situation and a task that is Herculean and very important. Therefore, the Generalitat has indeed sided with the municipalities to work, improve, and accelerate as much as possible," he concluded.

CHJ Audit

On the other hand, Mazón referred to the Generalitat's demand for an audit of the technical means of prevention and anticipation of flood risks available at the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ).

"What we have requested is an audit because there are many things we still do not understand. And since there are many things we still do not understand, we have requested an audit. I believe we are providing explanations every day, and hopefully, the same will happen with the Confederation," he asserted.

"I prefer to leave it there at the moment. I think it is time to move forward, to provide explanations. And hopefully, everyone will give them every day. We are doing it," he concluded.
