Mazda's Spanish subsidiary was established 25 years ago, and to celebrate, the brand has created the 'Crafted in Japan House' exhibition, which will be open until May 26 at the Ortega-Marañón Foundation.
There, Mazda celebrates the brand's history in Japan, particularly in its birthplace of Hiroshima, where it was founded in 1920. The Japanese ambassador to Spain, Takahiro Nakamae, was responsible for inaugurating the exhibition.
Hiroshima, located in the Chugoku region in western Japan, is now a modern and vibrant city. Traversed by the Ōta River, which divides the city into six islands with its seven branches, the city blends nature and urbanism, tradition and modernity.
This duality is also reflected in its cultural and artisanal wealth: from the art of metallurgy and sewing to local cuisine, with iconic dishes like Okonomiyaki and sweets like Momiji Manju, which interestingly shares ingredients with Castilian pastries.
A symbolic connection that reinforces over 400 years of brotherhood between Japan and Spain. The main economic driver of the region is the automotive industry, with Mazda representing 32% of its GDP.
Divided between an outdoor natural space and an indoor area, the exhibition invites visitors to discover Hiroshima's history of resilience, its culture, architecture, sounds, aromas, nature, and especially its craftsmanship. It pays tribute to the work of the Takumi or Japanese master craftsmen and includes activities such as ikebana (flower arranging) workshops, furoshiki (art of knotting), moving meditation, and even a Japanese film cycle.
Additionally, attendees will be able to test drive the range of Mazda vehicles during the weekends and attend the static national premiere of the new Mazda 6e, the new electric sedan presented at the Brussels Motor Show earlier this year.
