The security of Prince Carl Philip of Sweden has been severely compromised following a massive hack that affected the sports application Sportadmin. This platform, used by more than two million people in Sweden, was the target of a cyberattack in January 2025, resulting in the leak of personal data of its users, including routes, schedules, and routines of the son of King Carl Gustaf.
According to the Swedish newspaper 'Dagens Nyheter', the hacker group known as RansomHub managed to access Sportadmin's servers, stealing sensitive information with the aim of blackmailing the application's administrators. When the demanded payment was not received, the cybercriminals published the stolen information on the 'dark web', exposing highly compromising data of public figures, including Prince Carl Philip.
Carl Philip, aged 45, is a sports enthusiast and an active user of the application, which allowed him to record his running, cycling, and other outdoor activity routes. The exposure of his data has posed a serious security problem, as the routes he frequented, the times he trained, and the destinations he regularly visited are now known with precision. Moreover, the leak not only revealed information about his sporting habits but also details about recent trips abroad that had not been disclosed until now.
The impact of this privacy breach is not limited solely to the prince. It is estimated that at least 80 people, including current and former members of the Swedish Parliament, have also had their information exposed, making this case a top priority for the authorities. Currently, the Swedish police and security agencies are working to assess the extent of the damage and prevent further leaks.
This is not the first incident where Prince Carl Philip has been involved in a digital security issue. In 2020, the Swedish Royal House had to issue a statement warning about a fraudulent website using his name to solicit fake donations. However, the current hack represents a much greater threat, as his physical integrity has been endangered by disclosing real-time information about his movements.
The Swedish Royal House has reacted cautiously to the leak, merely confirming that measures have been taken to safeguard the prince's security and that they are cooperating with the relevant authorities. "As this is a security matter, the Court refuses to provide further information," declared the press department of the Royal House.
The data disclosure in Sportadmin highlights the urgent need to strengthen security measures in applications that manage personal information. For public figures like the prince, whose movements can be tracked for malicious purposes, this exposure poses a considerable risk, forcing him to modify his routines and take extreme precautions. In this regard, the prince already used an anonymous email address, under a pseudonym, intended to protect his anonymity online. However, these precautions proved insufficient, so Carl Philip will be forced to adjust his sporting habits to the new situation and adopt new security measures both digitally and in his daily life to avoid future vulnerabilities.
