The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a warning about the arrival of a new DANA to the peninsula, which will especially affect the Mediterranean coast. The entry of a cold air mass from northern Europe will bring a drop in temperatures in Alicante and widespread storms starting Wednesday.
This mass will move southwest in the coming days, reaching the peninsula and "it is likely to end up isolating itself as a DANA or a cold storm," warns Aemet, emphasizing that it will settle in the Mediterranean and southern peninsula from Wednesday 13th and will last until Saturday 16th.

The increase in this instability will be accompanied by the entry of a humid Mediterranean flow from the east, so "it is likely that strong and persistent rainfall will occur in the Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean slope". Despite the predictions, Aemet indicates the "uncertainty" regarding the position and amount of distributions.

Even so, it is expected that, especially in the north of the province of Alicante, storms will discharge more than 100 liters per square meter, even reaching 200 l/m2 locally. Thus, the agency forecasts rains from Wednesday to Friday throughout the province.
"The most likely scenario at the moment is that the rains in the Mediterranean area will begin on Tuesday, with a higher probability in the south of the Balearic archipelago," explains Aemet, who assures that from Wednesday they will leave snow in the mountain systems and drops in temperature of more than 10 degrees.

It is expected that the rains will be intense on the Mediterranean slope, especially in the Marina Alta area, north of the cape of La Nao at first, moving to the north of the Community and coast as the days progress.
"It is likely that from Saturday 16th the rains will begin to lose intensity in the Mediterranean area and move to the Atlantic slope, although the uncertainty about the evolution of the episode is very high," reads the Aemet statement.
This Wednesday, with the arrival of the DANA, the mercury will drop to 16 degrees. The cold will fully arrive with the rain that will cover every corner of the city of Alicante. The phenomenon will continue until the next weekend, with more degrees of temperature, though.
The same will happen in Alcoi, which starts this Sunday with highs of 18 degrees and sun on every bridge. It will be this Wednesday when the cold drop also appears in the city and, with it, the thermometers will fall to ten degrees. Aemet warns of snow levels at 1,500 meters of altitude.
