The uncertainty about Mazón's attendance at the third Mascletà of the 2025 Hogueras lingered over the plaza's asphalt throughout the morning. The president attended the signing of the internship agreement for Health Sciences courses with the University of Alicante and the Miguel Hernández University at the Casa de las Brujas at 1 PM. However, the tight schedule kept the head of the Consell away from the event.
Among the attendees were the president of the Alicante Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, and municipal corporation councillors, led by Mayor Luis Barcala.
This Friday, the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, was present. The socialist leader was accompanied by other officials such as the Government Subdelegate in Alicante, Juan Antonio Nieves, as well as several national and regional deputies including Araceli Poblador, Francis Rubio, Marisa Navarro, Alejandro Soler, José Díaz, and Yaissel Sánchez, along with members of the municipal corporation.
Vox has also begun its round of visits. Abascal's party welcomed national deputies David García and Jacobo González-Robatto, and regional deputy Ana Vega, to the VIP area of the Mascletà. The party's youth will hold a 'Beers for Spain' session this Friday afternoon at the Concerto nightclub in the city centre.
They were not the only ones. From Compromís, national deputy Águeda Micó was accompanied by regional deputy Isaura Navarro and the coalition's councillors in the City Council, Rafa Más and Sara Llobell.
The discordant note of the day was struck by the municipal spokesperson for EU-Podem, Manolo Copé, who wore a t-shirt reading: "Festival or heritage, compatible. Let's defend the fountain." After the Mascletà, the councillor for Festivities, Cristina Cutando, remarked that it was considered disrespectful to politicise an event like the Mascletà, which all councillors attend as city representatives. Copé defended his right to freedom of expression, emphasising that he does not attend the events "personally, but rather represents those who voted for him," and thus will use "public spaces to advocate for his party's positions."
