The Sant Joan d'Alacant Town Hall has signed the final acceptance certificate for the renovation, expansion, and modernisation works of the Municipal Market. These works, which concluded on March 31, were officially completed on Wednesday, June 4, after addressing minor details such as the activation of the electrical supply and finishing touches on the exterior area of the premises. The works, part of the 'Sant Joan d'Alacant, Close to Everything, Sustainable and Committed to the Local Economy' Project, funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan - Financed by the European Union - Next Generation EU, had a total contract value of €1,697,657, with 80% funded by European funds and the remaining 20%, approximately €340,000, provided by the Sant Joan Town Hall.
The Mayor of Sant Joan, Santiago Román; the Councillor for Commerce and Market, Manuel Nieto; the municipal architect and auditor; the architects overseeing the works (Sonia Miralles and Arturo Calero); and a representative from the contractor, UTE Alcudia-Intagua, attended the signing of the acceptance certificates. This event took place within the market itself, a municipal facility that now presents a completely different appearance from what was known in recent decades.
Following this acceptance of the works, the next step will be the return of the food stalls and the café, which have been operating since last September in Plaça L'Ordana. The ten stalls, along with the café, will be reinstalled in their original location, but with completely renovated and improved facilities, both aesthetically and functionally. The relocation will occur in the coming days to avoid disrupting the daily activities of both the vendors and the clientele of the Sant Joan Municipal Market.
