Mariah Carey's Mother and Sister Die on the Same Day

"My heart is broken over losing my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic twist of events, my sister also passed away on the same day," Mariah Carey revealed to her followers on social media without providing further details about the incident. Patricia, the mother, and Alison, the sister, died on the same day at the ages of 87 and 63, respectively. "I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away," she confessed, while also expressing gratitude for "the love and support from everyone and for respecting my privacy during this impossible time."

The relationship between the artist and her mother, an opera singer, was not always smooth. "Like many aspects of my life, my relationship with my mother has been full of contradictions and opposing realities. It has never been just black or white: it has been a whole rainbow of emotions," she wrote in her autobiography, where she went on to state that "a complicated love ties my heart to my mother's." Fortunately, they managed to mend their relationship. This was not the case with her sister Alison, who sued Mariah in 2021 for "humiliating and shaming" her through her memoirs, leading the music diva to cut off all contact with her. This estrangement did not prevent the pain of loss.
