María Carrión García firmly believes that the Hogueras of Alicante are "a hallmark of identity." For her, the city's official festivities go beyond tradition, as "we have always been hand in hand" and "I consider them a way of life," which includes "a mix of excitement, emotion, effort, and pride that only those who live it can understand."

All these feelings culminate during the night of the cremà. This is the favorite event of the candidate for Bellea del Foc from Carolinas Altas, "the culminating moment that reflects the effort and dedication of an entire year." Last June, she lit the fuse of the firecracker that turned her bonfire into ashes. "Although it has a touch of sadness as it marks the end, I see it as opening the door to new hopes and dreams."

Another special moment for María Carrión was the flower offering to the Virgin of Remedio during the last event. "I was lucky to do it arm in arm with my brother," experiencing a parade "full of excitement" that months later "I remember with special fondness."

The Hogueras of Alicante, and especially her district Carolinas Altas, have been present since her childhood, when she wore her first mantilla as a child lady for two consecutive years, just like before the pandemic when she was an adult lady. She also participates in various delegations of her bonfire, such as the children's one.

Her first year as a child lady, at just six years old, marked everything. "They proposed it to me and I was not yet part of this world," so her mother warned her of the responsibility that the role entails and that "I would have to dress every day of Hogueras." Negotiations came to first sign up as a bonfire member and later be a lady, but María Carrión insisted.

Thus, she experienced her first bonfires with band, skirt, and mantilla, pieces she wore during parades and official processions. However, when she took off the costume, she would cry while telling her mother: "You told me we were going to parade all day and we only did three hours!"
