The former Coca-Cola executive and Ciudadanos MP, Marco de Quinto, has criticised Pedro Sánchez's government and attacked socialism. De Quinto claimed that 'we are living in a coup' and insisted that the situation in Spain is a 'regression of rights'.

He made these statements during one of the Circular Conferences of the Cámara Business Club, held this Thursday at the Puntapiedra restaurant in Alicante. The event was attended by the president of the chamber organisation, Carlos Baño, the vice president and one of the owners of Carmencita, Jesús Navarro, as well as around a hundred entrepreneurs from the province.

The conference focused on the capitalist model and criticisms of the Spanish government and the European Union. De Quinto particularly railed against the government, asserting that 'we are living in a coup' and outlined some characteristics of such, indicating that there is 'an assault on institutions, degradation of other powers, and control of the media'.

The former Ciudadanos MP, following the pandemic, indicated that 'we are experiencing a regression in rights' and listed some such as 'the ability to educate in Spanish, the right to private property with squatting, the presumption of innocence of a male...'.

The executive explained during the conference his stance against socialism. 'Capitalism is when societies have progressed, it focuses on generating progress and wealth, even if asymmetrically,' expressed de Quinto, who insists that 'egalitarianism does not generate progress' and criticised socialism by detailing that 'it discourages the creation of wealth' and is motivated by 'envy and resentment'.

'From a capitalist point of view, investment in security and justice is essential, while socialism focuses on the tax agency,' the businessman denounced before the Chamber of Commerce, who also criticised communism, asserting that 'it has broken people's references: family, religion, and a sense of nation'.

Entrepreneurial Figure

The executive also denounced throughout the conference that the figure of the entrepreneur 'is disparaged' and insists that this 'is due to content, a fine rain' and cites the character from La Que se Avecina, Antonio Recio, as an example. 'The villain is the entrepreneur, the fishmonger, he is the one with negative values.'

De Quinto continues to insist on this mantra and assures that 'this country thinks that entrepreneurs are bad, there will never be a series where the villain is the trade unionist or the civil servant who does nothing' and denounces that series and screenwriters 'are focused on that cultural hegemony of the left'.

Among his criticisms of the current political situation, the economist took a jab at the economy: 'an economy that grows will be healthy, there will be more employment, wages will increase normally and not artificially, fewer people unemployed, more income and fewer subsidies, more money to invest and reduce taxes, this helps improve people's pockets,' while calling for 'facilitating investment in Spain'.
