The Manchester City player Matheus Nunes was arrested on September 8th at the well-known nightclub La Riviera in Madrid, accused of stealing a man's mobile phone. 'El Mundo' reveals this in its Wednesday edition. They say that the Portuguese player was in the restroom when supposedly a fan approached him to ask for a photo - others say he took it without permission - and he got angry and took the phone.

According to this medium, the victim filed a complaint instantly with the National Police, and they sent a couple of officers to the nightclub, where they confirmed that Nunes had the fan's phone. They proceeded to arrest him and took him to the Arganzuela police station.

Nunes gave a statement and was released with charges on that same Sunday, awaiting trial. He is charged with an alleged theft offense. The reported events have two versions, according to 'El Mundo'. Apparently, witnesses from the nightclub claim that the footballer took the phone from a 58-year-old man in the bathroom when he tried to take a photo of the player inside the restroom without permission. Others, however, told the newspaper that the man touched the player while holding the phone in his hand and that Nunes reacted by taking the device, thinking he had taken a photo.

In any case, the police report does confirm that the phone was taken. The 26-year-old player reappeared with his team a week later, on Saturday, September 14th. City beat Brentford 2-1 and Nunes only played for one minute. He also did not play in the next two matches against Inter and Arsenal.

The Portuguese player joined Guardiola's team from English Wolves for 62 million euros. Until now, his participation in City was limited to second-tier matches and bringing freshness to midfield from the bench. But now, after Rodri's serious injury, Nunes has become a 'regular' in Guardiola's scheme. Yesterday he played all 90 minutes in Bratislava, in the Champions League match against Slovan, and last week he scored a goal against Watford.
