Amid the controversy surrounding Maite Galdeano and her daughter, Sofía Suescun, the bus driver's wedding to Ugo Joseph Okoye, a Nigerian man she met by chance in the elevator of her building, has come to light. "I was coming back from shopping and saw him entering the building," the Navarre native recounted exclusively to 'Lecturas'. It was love at first sight, so much so that she did not hesitate to travel to Nigeria for 15 days to marry him. During this time, Sofía, who was then 13 years old, stayed alone in their home in Pamplona. According to Maite's account, they met in 2005 when she had "a Senegalese lover and another from Ghana" whom she left to be with Ugo alone. They were together for two years until Ugo left for Morocco and disappeared for an entire year. In 2008, the Nigerian reestablished contact and proposed: "He called me many times; he wanted us to have a child." "I thought about it a lot and finally said yes," she recalled.
Thus, she went to Nigeria to find her "prince," but she went alone, leaving Sofía in Pamplona, who was then 13 years old. She also returned from Africa alone until her newlywed husband could sort out his paperwork. This crazy love story ended when Sofía began to suspect that her mother's partner was being unfaithful. "She set a trap and pretended to be a university student. And she caught him," Maite recounted, which led her to kick him out of their home.
