Josep María Mainat was once known for his professional career as a member of La Trinca and as a producer at Gestmusic, which created era-defining TV shows like 'Crónicas Marcianas' and 'Operación Triunfo'. However, in June 2020, his life took a dramatic turn when his then-wife, Ángela Dobrowolski, attempted to murder him by injecting insulin after he requested a divorce. Mainat sat down with Mamen Mendizábal on 'Anatomía de' to recount how his wife turned into a 'diabolical' person capable of ending his life.

The programme obtained security footage from the producer's home showing the 14 times Ángela Dobrowolski moved between the bedroom and the kitchen in the middle of the night. According to the verdict, she injected her husband with both fast-acting and slow-acting insulin to kill him, a fate avoided only because Ángela herself called emergency services. "She tried to kill me, but she saved me. If Ángela hadn't called emergency services, I would be dead," Mainat admitted, with those close to him suspecting he suffers from Stockholm syndrome.

"She returned to hard drugs and completely transformed into someone evil, diabolical, criminal, and even capable of murdering me," the producer revealed, confessing, "I deeply hate that person, but I still love the other one." As for the reasons behind her actions, money is the only explanation he can think of, lamenting, "The most disastrous thing is that all this is about money."

Dobrowolski was only convicted of causing injury, as her emergency call prevented Mainat's death. Both the prosecution and the producer's defence argue that the call was not to save him but to provide herself with an alibi. "Our thesis is that Ángela called the emergency services to cover herself and say, 'How could I want to kill him if I'm the one who tried to save his life?' and waited for the right moment to make it too late. As the prosecutor vividly put it during the trial, 'She made that call intending to kill to save her own life.'" However, the victim disagrees, and when asked by Mendizábal if he believes she called to save his life, he replied, "Yes, I think she saw me dying next to the children and called."

At 78, the versatile producer is a father to two young children with Dobrowolski, to whom he dedicates all his energy after their mother was imprisoned. He fights against the passage of time by undergoing various therapies and taking supplements, aiming to live to 120 years. His care routines include sports, cold water baths, a balanced diet, facial treatments, and Botox.

Meanwhile, Ángela is serving a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence for injuring her husband, as the court ruled she "voluntarily desisted from her homicidal action, thus exonerating her from murder charges." While in prison, she unsuccessfully attempted to escape and met Rosa Peral, convicted of murdering her partner, Pedro Rodríguez. They became friends, although they had to be separated due to bad behaviour.
