After Monday's chaos, the Madrid tournament will resume its activities this Tuesday from 12:00. With a one-hour delay from the scheduled time due to the lack of electricity supply early in the morning, the Madrid tournament will open its doors and resume its activities 24 hours after the blackout that left Spain and several European countries without power.
This incident forced the cancellation of the entire Monday session, in which only three matches were completed: the victories of Coco Gauff, Mirra Andreeva, and Matteo Arnaldi, and all matches were moved to Tuesday.
In the case of the Manolo Santana court, although there was a plan to resume play without the electronic line-calling system, the blackout left the spider camera at a low height and unable to move, making it impossible to resume the match.
After several hours of uncertainty and with general chaos in the tournament corridors, where many fans had to use their mobile phone flashlights to move around, the organization announced the cancellation of the session at 16:30 in the afternoon.
In total, the organization expects 31 matches to be played this Tuesday across the six main courts that comprise the Magic Box complex.
This resumption was accompanied by suspense, after an early morning announcement of a one-hour delay in the opening of the doors. "Due to reasons beyond the organization's control, the Magic Box is still without electricity supply at this time of the morning. Consequently, the opening of the doors is delayed, and we hope to open them at 11:00," the tournament announced.
Minutes later, the tournament itself confirmed that the electricity supply had been restored and that play would resume from 12:00. "The electricity supply has been restored at the Magic Box. To ensure the proper functioning of the entire facility, the doors will open at 11:00, and the session will begin at 12:00, as planned."
