How did it get there? This was the question posed by Madrid's police and emergency services after rescuing a goat from the ledge of a fifth-floor window in the Villaverde district. An unusual rescue that still leaves many questions unanswered.

The operation took place on Tuesday afternoon on Potes Street, in the southern part of the capital. In the mid-afternoon, residents spotted a medium-sized brown animal, motionless on the window ledge. The firefighters' intervention attracted numerous onlookers and the cameras of Madrid's public television, which broadcast the rescue live.

The rescue, which required several attempts due to the challenging situation, involved a walkway from the adjacent terrace to reach the window ledge. The incident was recorded by neighbours, and some of these videos have been shared on social media.

Apparently, the property is vacant and has been unoccupied for some time, making the situation even more peculiar. Speaking to Telemadrid, a neighbour from the floor where the mammal appeared claims that the animal "came down from the sky."

After the rescue, the Municipal Police initially took charge of the small, brown goat with a white spot on its face. Subsequently, the Municipal Veterinary Emergency Service (Sevemur), responsible for the care and assistance of sick or injured ownerless animals found in public areas, collected the ruminant and sent it to the Madrid Health Animal Protection Centre.

As of Wednesday, the goat remains at the centre, and a municipal spokesperson clarifies that it is "an adult male dwarf goat." "It is not identified and is under observation for potential diseases, although it appears to be in good health," the spokesperson adds.
