The second edition of MECC (Madrid Expo Camper&Caravan) has opened its doors to showcase the latest in motorhomes, caravans, campers, urban vans, tents, trailers, accessories, and services for travelers. The fair, which takes place at IFEMA Madrid until this Sunday, September 22nd, will welcome more than 24,000 visitors.
With the celebration of MECC 2024, the Spanish capital consolidates itself within the international circuit of industry fairs. Almudena Maíllo del Valle, Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Madrid City Council, spoke about this during the event's opening ceremony. She highlighted «the good news that this city is on the European map of caravaning shows at a time when travel on wheels is gaining more and more popularity, especially after the pandemic.»
Maíllo also claimed that «Madrid has a very complete offer for all tastes and will continue to grow, considering the campsites expanding throughout the Community.» The tourism manager of the council also encouraged both locals and visitors to attend MECC 2024, «where they will find the latest in motorhomes, caravans, and vans that allow enjoying outdoor leisure with maximum comfort while also betting on innovation.»
For his part, Luis Fernando Martín, Deputy Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid, highlighted the positive moment that the capital is experiencing, «attracting travelers from all corners of the world and fairs like MECC. This shows that we are leading the tourism industry.» Beyond the city, Martín focused on the opportunities offered by the entire Community to the camping and caravaning industry «where it is becoming increasingly important.»
In figures, the Deputy Minister stated that in the region «there are more than 20 campsites with almost 20,000 accommodation places and around 300,000 visitors come each year attracted by the tourist campsites of the Community of Madrid. It is an emerging sector where more and more people are encouraged to discover tourist destinations.»
Regarding these destinations, he pointed out that the Community of Madrid consists of «one hundred rural tourism municipalities in four regions,» with leisure on wheels being «a perfect way to discover these corners.»
Over five days, MECC 2024, with 130 companies attending the fair, will showcase the most unique vehicles, products, and solutions on the market. These include the fully equipped and customizable 100% electric Marco Polo from Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen's new plug-in hybrid California model or Reimo's converted fire truck camper.
Sergio Fabregat, director of MECC, confirmed the growth of the biennial show which has increased its exhibiting brands by 30% compared to its first edition. He expressed optimism about the forecasts: «We expect to break records with MECC 2024 and hope that campers and caravan enthusiasts who come will enjoy our offerings while spending a pleasant day with their families. This year we also coincide with European Mobility Week.»
