Unauthorised 'macrorrave' near Ciudad Real airport, which has been without air traffic for years, has caused traffic disruptions on the A-41 motorway (Ciudad Real-Puertollano) since it began on New Year's Eve, with delays of up to two hours. The traffic jams have been so severe that local police in Ciudad Real and Puertollano have used social media to warn of the issue and advise against using this motorway, urging extreme caution if necessary.

The event, known as the 'Big Fucking Party 2025', could continue for several days, attracting over 2,000 people in hundreds of vehicles, including motorhomes, trucks, and cars, not only from Spain but also from countries like the UK and France, who have chosen the motorway for parking. To ensure safety, local police from Puertollano and Ciudad Real have been joined by National Police officers to prevent disturbances while attendees continue to enjoy the music peacefully.

Security Measures

According to Ricardo Chamorro, the City Council's Security Councillor in Ciudad Real, the 'rave' began around half-past nine on the night of December 31st, "which has caused significant traffic jams and forced the Civil Guard, National Police, and Local Police to establish a wide-ranging operation to control traffic and prevent accidents."

This is not the first time such illegal large-scale parties have been held in Castilla-La Mancha, as a similar event took place in Fuentes (Cuenca) in 2023 and a few months later in Jábaga (Cuenca). Those 'raves' were eventually dispersed by security forces, resulting in hundreds of fines for attendees, who faced administrative penalties of up to 3,000 euros. In those events, organisers chose small villages in the province of Cuenca, which suffer from depopulation issues.

This time, the organisers of the 'rave' have chosen Ciudad Real airport, which operated between 2008 and 2012 and has been used since 2019 only for aircraft maintenance, cargo transport, and occasional private flights.
