Last August marked five years since the death of Xana Martínez, the daughter of Luis Enrique. The young girl passed away due to osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, after battling the disease for five months. Little was known about it then, as Luis Enrique stepped down from the Spanish national team and chose privacy. All involved in the football world respected that decision, and this time Luis Enrique has spoken about his daughter in the newly released documentary on Movistar Plus+, 'You Have No **** Idea'.
The way of facing the loss of a daughter is overwhelming to anyone. Luis Enrique, with a very serious face, says he considers himself 'fortunate' in life. He clarifies, 'very fortunate'. He questions himself: 'But if your daughter died at nine years old...'. Then he offers a response that surprises everyone: 'Well, my daughter Xana came to live with us for nine wonderful years. We have a thousand memories of her, videos, incredible things... Physically she is not here, but spiritually she is. Every day we talk about her, we laugh and cry.'

And to help the public understand the natural way they live through the grief, Luis Enrique reveals an anecdote that happened at his mother's house, already with the little one deceased. 'My mother couldn't have photos of Xana, she said "I can't, I can't"... I told her she had to put Xana because she is alive,' says the current PSG coach.
Luis Enrique insists at all times that in some way Xana is with them. 'I think Xana still sees us, that she sees how we live this...'. In the preview published by Movistar on their social networks, some small videos of Xana playing and enjoying with her family can also be seen.
Previously, in some interview, the Asturian already acknowledged that in his family 'we think about living this naturally'. They assume in the same way that 'we don't physically have our daughter, but we have her present every day'. 'We remember her a lot, we laugh, and we think about how she would act in every situation of many things that happen to us. And nothing more. That's how life works. It's not just about beautiful things and trying to find happiness but also knowing how to manage these moments,' he acknowledged a few months ago.
Xana is the third child of the marriage between Luis Enrique and his wife Elena Cullell. Before, Pacho, the firstborn, and Sira were born. During those difficult months, Spanish football and sports, in general, supported Luis Enrique and his family. The coach left his position as the coach of La Roja two months after learning about his daughter's illness. When the tragic outcome occurred, Luis Enrique returned to his job three months later.
It was during the World Cup when he announced his dedication to childhood cancer research. He implemented the innovative talks with fans on Twitch during the Qatar camp, despite receiving much criticism, and half of the monetized amount went to the Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation, an entity fighting against childhood cancer. He currently maintains this initiative as the PSG coach.
