A man is under investigation by the Civil Guard for filing a false report about the theft of his mobile phone in a town in Alicante. The complainant also attempted to claim compensation from his insurer, which was denied as his policy had expired.

According to the account, the thief was a slim man, 1.80 meters tall, dressed in grey clothing with a hood. He reportedly snatched the mobile phone, valued at over a thousand euros, without causing any injuries to the complainant.
Civil Guard officers, as part of their crime prevention duties, launched a thorough investigation into the report. After examining various details, they identified typical patterns of false reports.

During the investigation, officers found no evidence supporting the complainant's account or the presence of the thief.
The investigation involved further meetings between the Civil Guard and the complainant, during which he provided contradictory versions. He changed details about the location, method of theft, and description of the thieves, confirming the officers' suspicions.
It was during a meeting with officers on December 26 that the suspect confessed the reported incidents were false and admitted to losing the mobile phone. Officers confirmed that after filing the report, the man attempted to claim compensation from his insurer, which was denied due to the expired policy.

The 29-year-old man had no prior record. Nevertheless, he was investigated for a suspected crime of simulation of a crime. The proceedings have been sent to the Torrevieja duty court, which will determine his criminal liability.
The Civil Guard emphasizes that this case is not isolated. During the summer and autumn months, Torrevieja officers investigated four other individuals for similar incidents. In most cases, false reports sought to obtain insurance compensation or justify the loss of items to family members.
Simultaneously, they remind that filing a false report is a crime under articles 456 and 457 of the Penal Code. Such actions have legal consequences and represent a misuse of police resources, which could be used to solve real cases. A call is made for responsibility and honesty when filing reports.
