The Elche City Council has awarded the construction works of the pedestrian bridge that will connect sectors E-4 and E-20 in Altabix-University, over the train tracks. The work will begin in the coming weeks, according to Mayor Pablo Ruz.
“Finally, we awarded the Altabix bridge that is 10 years late but will finally become a reality,” said the mayor. With an investment of 2.8 million euros and a completion period of 12 months, it is expected that the works, carried out by Pavasal, will begin in November.
“This is a very important infrastructure in which the municipal government will invest to overcome the train tracks that did not consider the city's expansion at the time of their construction,” explained Ruz, who highlighted the political will to carry out the work 15 months after taking office.
The bridge will have a deck 5.5 meters wide and 44 meters long and will rise seven meters above the train track due to existing terrain unevenness. It will be accessed via two ramps or, at the southern end of the deck, with a staircase and another ramp. The works will start from both sides, laying the foundations, so that cranes can later install the bridge.
According to Ruz, “today is a good day for local residents and the entire city. We show credibility and commitment to projects.” The construction works of the pedestrian bridge will be accompanied by landscaping and improvement of surrounding areas such as 'Maestro Ildefonso Cañizares' garden.
