Dockworkers and personnel from stevedoring companies at the Port of Alicante, most of whom are from Coordinadora, gathered this Thursday in a demonstration in front of the Port Authority to express their opposition to the recent use of general cargo docks for cruise ship berthing.

Under the slogan 'The Port Needs Docks to Grow', the workers aim to warn about "the negative consequences" that this situation is causing for port activity.

In recent months, "the increase in cruise ship arrivals to areas traditionally designated for cargo has led to the diversion of vessels to other ports," such as Cartagena, "and has caused delays that directly affect daily operations," they state in a communiqué. This shift "not only disrupts the regular workflow but also harms the growth and stability of the port as a key point in goods traffic," they assert.

Faced with this "detriment" to port activity, the workers have decided to make the situation visible and warn the Port Authority of the consequences it could have for the development and competitiveness of the Port of Alicante.
