The corruption scandal affecting the Socialist Party has reached Alcoi. At least, this is what the local branch of the Popular Party claims, linking the Koldo case to the renovation works being carried out in the Rosaleda park. They assert that one of the companies forming the UTE awarded the works—Levantina, Ingeniería y Construcción SL—appears in the report prepared by the UCO investigating the alleged corruption scheme affecting the socialists.
Additionally, the Popular Party states that the company is in bankruptcy proceedings and "has been declared insolvent, suspending some of the public works they were undertaking in several provinces of our country."
The party suggests that this could be the reason why the Rosaleda works "are not progressing at the expected pace," as the City Council has been forced to extend the contractually stipulated period for the completion of the works.
"We are genuinely concerned. Many questions arise, such as whether the Rosaleda works can be completed, but above all, we wonder if the socialist government was aware of this company's situation," says Carlos Pastor, spokesperson for the PP municipal group in the Alcoi City Council.
Socialist Response
The Socialist Party, governing alongside Compromís in Alcoi, has responded to this information, denying that any company involved in any corruption case is working on this municipal project.
"If the Popular Party has any doubts about the contracting process, they can consult directly with the popular councillor Amàlia Payá, who was present at the meeting. Moreover, it should be clarified that the initially awarded company no longer works in La Rosaleda; another company continues the works normally within the same UTE," says Jordi Martínez, spokesperson for the PSPV-PSOE municipal group.
