Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48V arrives in Spain for the first time in the Double Cab format with a single VXL trim, featuring a 48V hybrid system that utilises the well-established 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine of the Hilux, equipped with a new motor-generator, a 48V lithium-ion battery, and a DC-DC Converter. Additionally, it includes a three-dimensional grille and a front bumper that emphasises its robust durability.
The Hilux Mild Hybrid 48V is equipped with an electric motor and generator that provide additional power and allow energy recovery and storage in the 48V battery. Thus, thanks to its micro-hybrid system, the Toyota Hilux Mild Hybrid 48V is considered an ECO vehicle and receives the ECO label from the DGT.
The electric motor provides up to 12 kW of additional power and 65 Nm of torque to the engine during acceleration. This enhances the vehicle's performance in demanding conditions, both on and off-road. Moreover, it significantly improves driving comfort by assisting the combustion engine during start-up, offering greater smoothness and reducing noise and vibrations.
With the electric generator, kinetic energy from braking is recovered and transformed into electrical energy stored in the 48V battery. The operation of the 48V system can be:
-CHG: indicates that the system is in regenerative mode and energy is being recovered.
-PWR: indicates that the 48V motor is providing additional torque and power.
-ECO: displayed when the 48V system is operating and optimising fuel consumption.
The Toyota Hilux Mild Hybrid 48V features 18-inch aluminium wheels, four driving modes - ECO, NORM, SPORT, MTS -, a multimedia system with an 8-inch screen, Apple Carplay / Android Auto compatibility, heated front seats, electrically adjustable and foldable mirrors. It also includes front and rear parking sensors, automatic climate control, LED fog lights, headlight washers, two 12V sockets, and a 220V outlet.
The available colours for the new Toyota Hilux Mild Hybrid 48V are: Classic White, Iceberg Pearl White, Lunar Silver, Graphite Grey, Cosmo Black, Volcano Red, Olive Bronze, and Terracotta.
The DC-DC Converter allows the electric motor and 48V battery to integrate with the rest of the vehicle's electrical system. The 48V system represents a technical improvement in Toyota's legendary pickup, offering greater fuel efficiency, reducing consumption by 5% compared to the 2.8-litre diesel version without penalising CO2 emissions.
The regenerative braking features a lower idle speed, dropping from 720 to 600 rpm. This not only optimises consumption but also reduces noise and vibrations in the vehicle, enhancing comfort in urban driving and prolonging engine life.
The renewed Stop and Start system offers more comfortable driving, thanks to a quicker throttle response when starting and a quieter engine restart. It contributes to fuel savings by stopping the engine during prolonged stops, especially in urban use.
Hilux 48V includes the Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and the Electronic Stability Control System on any surface (MTS). This way, the driver can select the most suitable configuration for the most demanding off-road situations and according to terrain conditions.
