Deeply "proud" of the person she has become and determined to "keep fighting." This is how Leire Martínez, former vocalist of La Oreja de Van Gogh, presents herself in one of her most challenging moments after the group announced on October 14 that they were parting ways with her. The artist said she needed time to process the decision and until now had only made brief statements explaining that, when the time was right, she would provide more explanations: "When I feel ready, I will tell what needs to be told, but for now, I don't have much to say," she noted.

And those explanations have arrived, perhaps in the most unexpected way: with Leire's participation in the program 'Me quedo conmigo', which premieres this Wednesday on Mitele. A space where she opens up through therapy to overcome this moment. "I am Leire Martínez and I have decided to come to 'Me quedo conmigo' to continue healing those little wounds that we all have and that sometimes prevent us from moving forward as we would like," she begins.

In the preview that has already aired, Leire is seen affected by the sudden and painful farewell after 17 years sharing the stage with La Oreja de Van Gogh. "I am not stronger than anyone, but perhaps at some point in my life, I realized the need to take care of myself," she confesses, although she acknowledges that her childhood self, full of fears, has managed to become a woman "capable of facing adverse situations" like the one she is currently going through.

Proud of herself, she does not plan to give up and will continue fighting "to be who I want to be." "Pampering myself, taking care of myself, and loving myself," she affirms. And for this, she relies on four great pillars: her husband, her son, her mother, and her music. In fact, the artist has already released a new song, the first without La Oreja de Van Gogh, 'Eskutitza' ('The Letter'), together with Martin Urrutia for the EITB Maratoia 2024 charity marathon, which celebrates the 25th anniversary of Basque television and this edition focuses on cardiovascular diseases with the slogan 'Listen to your heart'.

Leire was overwhelmed by the unilateral statement the group issued about the end of their joint journey: "After 17 wonderful years full of music and emotions that we will never forget, we want to announce that the professional paths of Leire and La Oreja de Van Gogh will follow separate ways. The decision has been hard and difficult, but it comes after a long time of reflection and deep conversations in which we have not been able to bring our different ways of living the group closer. A fascinating stage ends that we will all carry in our hearts and that has allowed us to enjoy the best profession in the world in a dreamed way." A text she wanted to clarify that she had not signed in any case, although from the beginning she acknowledged that "separations are not usually cordial, but they will be. Time will be healing." And it seems that time has come through a television program where she undergoes therapy to move forward renewed.
