At least 11 dead as building collapses in New Delhi

At least 11 people, including three children, died yesterday after a four-storey residential building collapsed in New Delhi. The incident occurred in the early hours in a northeastern neighbourhood of the city, home to many immigrants from other parts of the country. There are also at least five injured.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed being "saddened by the loss of lives." The cause of the collapse of the four-storey building remains unknown, with local media describing it as having fallen "like a house of cards."

Building collapses are common in India, with illegal structures - often housing for immigrant workers - prevalent in major cities.
