At least ten people have died and another 30 have been injured in a mass hit-and-run on a busy street in New Orleans, where a crowd was celebrating the New Year. The incident occurred between three and four in the morning (10:00-11:00 in Spain), and the police still have the area cordoned off. Local television images show a constant flow of ambulances, fire trucks, and officers, as reported by a broadcast from the WWL-TV channel.

Some witnesses claim that a vehicle sped through Bourbon and Iberville streets, one of the iconic tourist spots in the popular city of Louisiana. It appears the area was packed with people. The police are investigating whether it was an accident or intentional. "This is an incident with many victims," was the first statement made by the department to the media. "There are thirty injured patients who have been transported to hospitals" and "ten fatalities," whose bodies remain at the scene awaiting examination by forensic experts. The police have established a security cordon and requested that residents and tourists stay away from the area.
