The hourglass for the 'hippies' on the Esplanade is running out, and this Friday marks the deadline for removing the stalls without any relocation alternatives on the table. However, the traders remain hopeful and have presented two new alternatives to the council at the last minute. These proposals aim to find a solution that allows them to continue their businesses.
The Esplanade Vendors Association (AVE) has submitted a document to the City Council outlining several alternatives. On one hand, the traders request to remain on the Esplanade seasonally, five months a year, from July to November, which would cover the city's peak tourism season. On the other hand, their proposal is to relocate to Doctor Gadea Avenue for eleven months, leaving the space free in June to allow for the Hogueras stalls, addressing the main obstacle the council initially cited for not permitting this location.

Additionally, in their document, they do not rule out the location in the Gómiz promenade parking lot and request an extension of the transitional period for relocation to this space, which the 'hippies' have claimed from the beginning, or the other two proposals.
These would be, for the AVE, the emergency solutions for the market that should initially be dismantled today. For now, the traders have already announced their intention not to move the stalls from their location in the coming days. Moreover, the vendors have organized a schedule of gatherings from 12 PM to 8 PM for four days next to their stalls.
The association continues to demand a solution from the City Council, although the deadline is drawing near. In fact, 90% have already dismissed their workers, and most stalls are already empty of materials. In recent days, at least one vendor has sought medical attention for stress-related issues, according to the collective.
From the Alicante City Council, the government team's spokesperson, Cristina Cutanda, stated in the press conference following last Tuesday's government meeting that the council has provided alternatives to the traders and that they can continue the process with the Port Authority for the space behind the Lonja - an area that the vendors dislike as the installation of stalls significantly reduces the walking space, among other aspects.
On the other hand, the Costas Directorate notified the traders this Thursday of the expiration of the file to process the relocation of the market to the Postiguet breakwater area. Costas reports that the council has not submitted the requested documentation to continue the process.
