The Valencian bakery and pastry company Grupo Cidoncha, the largest producer and marketer of cocas nationwide, with exports to countries such as Denmark and Ireland, has decided to invest in self-consumption to meet its energy needs through renewable energy production. To achieve this, the company, which counts among its many clients supermarket chains such as Mercadona, Masymas, or Carrefour, and hospitality companies like Grupo Paradores or Lizarrán, has signed a photovoltaic energy purchase agreement (PPA) with Eranovum, an independent energy producer and operator of electric vehicle charging and self-consumption infrastructures.
The contract includes the installation of 125 photovoltaic modules with a total capacity of 69 kWp on the roof of its site located in Ondara, Alicante. This infrastructure will generate approximately 87,000 kWh per year, allowing the company to cover more than 40% of its electricity consumption—which exceeds 145,700 kWh—with clean, renewable, and local energy. This will prevent the emission of 16 tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to planting approximately one hundred trees.
Eranovum will assume 100% of the investment required to execute the installation and will manage and maintain it for the 15-year duration of the contract. Meanwhile, Grupo Cidoncha will pay for the portion of energy it consumes at a significantly lower price than the conventional electricity grid. At the end of the contract period, the infrastructure will become their property for use and enjoyment at zero cost until the end of its useful life, which is approximately 25 years.
"This PPA contract offered by Eranovum allows companies like Grupo Cidoncha to benefit, without making any investment, from the economic advantages of having their own solar photovoltaic installation, such as securing a competitive, fixed, and known price for approximately half of their consumption, avoiding the large price fluctuations currently occurring in the market, and the peace of mind that infrastructure maintenance is included in the PPA fee. Additionally, they can be more sustainable and environmentally responsible," explains Jaime Goyanes, Business Development Director of Self-consumption at Eranovum.
Of the total green energy produced by these solar panels, 70% will be used by Grupo Cidoncha, while the remaining 30% will be diverted to supply an Eranovum electric vehicle charging station located 500 meters away, next to the Kiwoko store at the Portal La Marina Shopping Centre. This represents a collective self-consumption infrastructure that will also provide clean energy to the 4 chargers at this charging station.
