Joan Laporta is set to appear in Barcelona's Court of Instruction No. 6 on Monday, under investigation for an alleged fraud unrelated to his presidency at Barcelona, according to sources from the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) reported to Europa Press.

The events date back to between 2016 and 2018, when a family that won a lottery prize invested €2,400,000 in the Chinese company CSSB Limited, as reported by 'El Periódico'. "The company owned the Chinese football club BIT FC, an amateur team," confirmed Joan Comas, the lawyer for the plaintiffs, to Europa Press.

The lawyer confirms that they were promised the investment in the company owning the club would yield "a 6% return," but they only received profits for a couple of months, making it appear as though it was a failed business venture, in his exact words.

The attorney claims that his clients came into contact with the company through a man working at a luxury car dealership, who was married to an investment advisor at a bank; both are being sued, along with the bank, as a civilly liable party. Through them, whom he considers "finders" of potential investors, they came into contact with the company and, according to Comas, his clients, who lack training, signed a contract drafted "in Chinese."

The plaintiffs visited Laporta's office on several occasions, according to the lawyer, to complain about the cessation of agreed profits and claims he can prove through emails that they received "delays for a year." He states they were told that, due to the pandemic initially, and "a problem with the federation" later, the team had not been promoted and they planned to sell it, but were seeking investors.

Sources close to Laporta have confirmed to Europa Press that the Barcelona president will attend the summons next Monday, although he is not expected to make statements to the press.
