The wait is over. Luka Doncic officially debuted with Los Angeles Lakers on a night that will be etched in the memories of the Los Angeles fans. In a fully committed Crypto.com Arena, the Slovenian donned the purple and gold jersey for the first time and celebrated his debut with a commanding victory over the Utah Jazz (132-113). Despite being sidelined for 47 days after an injury on December 25, he showcased glimpses of his talent and confirmed that the Lakers have made a significant impact in the NBA.

Hours before the game, the atmosphere in Los Angeles was special. The Lakers, aware of the impact of Doncic's arrival, prepared a spectacle befitting the occasion. Each of the 18,997 seats in the Crypto.com Arena had a jersey with Luka's number 77, and the anticipation was palpable. Even LeBron James, in a symbolic gesture, warmed up with one of them before the game, as if to make it clear that the locker room was behind their new teammate.

When the team presentation came, the stadium erupted. The ovation for Doncic was thunderous, a welcome worthy of a superstar. Although he initially appeared out of rhythm and missed his first three-point attempts, the Slovenian gradually loosened up, showcasing his immense talent.

First glimpses of his magic

Doncic didn't need a spectacular performance to generate excitement. His first basket came with a three-pointer over Walker Kessler, taking advantage of a defensive switch. Shortly after, he stole the ball and scored under the basket with his usual cunning. He also displayed one of his classic moves: a perfect fadeaway against John Collins, followed by a contact layup for a 2+1.

However, the play that thrilled the fans the most was a more than 20-meter assist. After grabbing a defensive rebound, he launched a pinpoint pass to LeBron James, who only had to drop the ball into the hoop. It was a small preview of the connection that could form between the two, which has Lakers fans dreaming of a championship.

Doncic finished his debut with 14 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes. These weren't dazzling numbers, but considering his lack of play after nearly two months off, the outcome was positive.

The Slovenian expressed his emotions after the game: "It's like a dream come true. I've always admired LeBron, and now being able to play with him is incredible. I have a lot to learn from him and this team," he stated in the post-game press conference.

LeBron remains the leader

While Luka was acclimating, LeBron James took charge of the team. With 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists in just 29 minutes, the King demonstrated that he is still in top form and ready to lead this new project. Before the game, ESPN captured a conversation between him and Doncic where he gave clear advice: "Don't try to change your game or adapt to ours, be yourself." And that message was reflected on the court.

Alongside LeBron and Doncic, other players shone in the Los Angeles victory. Austin Reaves (22 points), Rui Hachimura (21), and Jaxson Hayes (12) completed a starting lineup that dominated the Jazz without difficulty. Only Lauri Markkanen (17 points), John Collins (17 and 11 rebounds), and Jordan Clarkson (16) managed to make the score respectable in a game where Utah was always trailing.
