As part of European Mobility Week 2024, Alicante has hosted the 'Rethinking the City' conference, a forum for debate and reflection on the future of cities and the role of sustainable mobility. The event, driven by Vectalia in collaboration with the Alicante City Council, the Regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, and the Water Chair of Alicante, brought together public and private sector representatives to discuss transformative measures that will enable cities to adapt to the challenges of the 21st century.
The event was inaugurated by Manuel Villar, Deputy Mayor of Alicante: "The decisions we make will influence more than one generation. The 'Alicante 4D' project represents a new vision for the city, with urban intelligence as the central axis of a new plan. This model is inspired by our city's history, which must be compact and inclusive, and we aspire to have it ready by 2050."
Villar emphasized the need to restructure connections within the city to make Alicante a polycentric and connected urban area, which is key in designing a more efficient and sustainable mobility model.
