Mourning in Spanish journalism. Carlos Carnicero has passed away at the age of 73, as confirmed this Tuesday by the Madrid Press Association (APM). The journalist (Zaragoza, 1951) was a television presenter and collaborated with various print and audiovisual media throughout his career, which included participation as a political commentator in various radio and television debates.

He also developed a political facet during the last years of the Franco dictatorship and the Transition, a period in which he was part of the Carlist Party integrated into the Democratic Junta opposing the regime. Carnicero considered himself "leftist and in a state of rebellion" and in recent years had suffered from several illnesses until he passed away this Tuesday in Madrid.

In a statement signed by Luis Díaz Güell, the APM reported that "one of the greats of journalism, Carlos Carnicero Jiménez de Azcárate, has left us. He left in silence, as he lived the last years with his multiple pathologies and after a recreational trip to Galicia. Traveling was his passion, which he enjoyed while he could."

"A great journalist and a great writer. Few contemporaries in the profession had accumulated such a dense and complex backpack of experiences and roles as Carlos Carnicero. A restless pursuer of ideals and news, of emotions and places to squeeze life. Recently, his friends published a book with the best stories of his life journeys, those of a leftist journalist who never stopped being one. There was the best Carlos Carnicero writer," the text continues.

It also recalls that Carnicero "had an overwhelming and tremendously generous character. He wanted nothing for himself. Everything he had, he used to squeeze life to the fullest, regardless of whether he had anything left." "In his frenetic life trajectory, he was a politician, analyst, magazine director, founder of media ventures, presenter, director of television programs, and news seeker. But above all, he was a formidable radio panelist whom none of his opponents could ever unseat from the podium. Many of us will miss him," it concludes.
