Renault Group Spain has announced that José Antonio León Capitán will assume the role of Communications Director starting from April 7, 2025. This appointment, which reinforces the brand's commitment to communication and transparency, marks a new chapter in the history of Renault Group in Spain.
The former Director of Communications and Institutional Relations at Stellantis in Spain and Portugal joins Renault Group Spain to lead the company's communication strategy during a period of significant transformation in the automotive industry. León Capitán will report to Josep María Recasens, President and General Director of Renault Group in Spain, and Christian Stein, Chief Communications Officer of Renault Group.
In his new position, as a member of the Leadership Team, he will define and manage the corporate communication strategy and plan for the company in Spain, as well as oversee the communication management of the industrial and hybridisation pole. Additionally, he will supervise the communication strategy for the group's four brands in Spain (Renault, Dacia, Alpine, and Mobilize). The addition of León Capitán "will drive the transformation process in Spain and strengthen the company's leadership in a strategic function for the group and the achievement of its objectives," according to the group.
José Antonio León Capitán is an Industrial Engineer from the University of Seville and the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) in Lyon, and holds an MBA from San Telmo Business School. He joined the PSA Group in 2000, where he has developed most of his professional career to date. Until 2005, he held various responsibilities in the areas of after-sales, marketing, and quality at Peugeot Spain. In 2006, he joined the Communication and External Relations Directorate of Peugeot Spain, assuming the roles of Head of External Relations, Internal Communication, Competition, Press Officer, and finally, Communications Director until 2014.
In January 2015, he was appointed Communications Director for Peugeot, Citroën, and DS Automobiles for Spain and Portugal. In 2016, he expanded his responsibility to include communication for the Vigo, Madrid, and Mangualde (Portugal) plants, as well as the institutional relations of Groupe PSA in the Iberian Peninsula. In 2018, he added the Opel brand and the Groupe PSA plant in Zaragoza to his remit. Since April 2021, he has been the Director of Communications and Institutional Relations for Stellantis Iberia for Spain and Portugal, managing the communication of its 11 automotive brands, 2 mobility brands, and 4 production centres in both countries. In this role, he also led public affairs and government relations for Stellantis in the Iberian Peninsula, representing the Group institutionally.

I also want to thank Ignacio Rodríguez-Solano for his commitment and dedication during these months."
Josep María Recasens, President and General Director of Renault Group in Spain, welcomed León Capitán, noting that "with his extensive experience and valued reputation in the sector, he arrives to lead Communication during the company's transformation into a Next Generation Company. Additionally, I want to thank Ignacio Rodríguez-Solano, who will now continue his duties as Director of Institutional Relations and Director of the Renault Group Spain Foundation, for his commitment to the company and the excellent work he has done in recent months leading the Communication team."
