Jorge Martín has been struck by misfortune. The fall he suffered as the reigning MotoGP world champion during Sunday's Qatar Grand Prix has left the Madrid native with eleven broken ribs—eight in the posterior costal arches and three in the lateral arches. This injury will require him to stay in the hospital for several days and seems to rule out his participation in the Jerez Grand Prix, the next World Championship event scheduled from April 25 to 27. A serious setback that Martinator takes philosophically. "I thank God because what happened to me could have been much worse," said the Madrid rider at the start of his recovery.

Jorge Martín returned to action over the weekend in Qatar after a tumultuous pre-season in which he fractured a total of ten bones in two falls. His goal was to ride to regain his rhythm and finish the race without incidents. However, he couldn't achieve the latter. With nine laps remaining in the race, while comfortably in seventeenth position, Martinator fell after hitting the outer kerb of turn 13. The Madrid rider suffered a heavy impact on his right side, and as he slid, Fabio Di Giannantonio's Ducati struck his side, leaving him visibly in pain on the track.

Jorge Martín was attended to for nearly two laps in the circuit's run-off area while the yellow flag waved at that section of the track. He was then transferred to the circuit's medical centre, where it was already anticipated that the situation was serious. Minutes after the MotoGP race concluded, he was airlifted to Hamad General Hospital in Doha, the Qatari capital.

The initial diagnosis indicated a traumatic pneumothorax, but further tests confirmed a more severe condition. He has eleven broken ribs and also suffers from pleural inflammation in the context of the pneumothorax. A severe blow for the reigning MotoGP champion, who will be sidelined for an indefinite period and is experiencing a 2025 to forget.
